A Brief Look at Thundermist

Thundermist Marine Holdings was started in 1998 by two brothers, David and Michael Packard. Dave and Mike,passonate life long boaters, started Thundermist in response to the poor quality standards still prevalent in the boatbulding industry.

It all started one summer afternoon, on a remote Maine lake. The Packard family was enjoying a boat ride on a recently purchased used runabout made by a well know builder, when the boat started taking on considerable amounts of water. Managing to beach the boat, the Packard brothers examined the hull, and found the fiberglass had literally split in two. Once at home, the brothers decided to repair the split hull, and began preparing the boat to be worked on. As the work continued, it became increasingly obvious that the boat was built so poorly, at even once it was repaired, it still would not be safe to use. Vowing to do better, the brothers decided to build their own...

More than 10 years later, and more than a few boats built, the Dave and Mike Packard still remember that afternoon. At some companies, quality, durability, and value are words on the lunch room posters. At Thundermist, they are the only way things are done. As Mike often says, "You can't walk home when your boat breaks down." This philosophy is foremost in the minds of every employee, and built into every boat, every time.
